Field Notes

Description:

A small orb spider; about 12mm long abdomen; bright yellow pattern made it well camouflaged in the flowers of the acacia.

Habitat:

On an acacia at a local sports park surrounded by planted endemics.

Notes:

Araneus lutulentus
http://www.padil.gov.au/barrow-island/pest/main/137137/11819
This little spider was so reliant upon it's disguise it refused to move at all when scared by my camera presence. Instead it just kept very still - like a flower. What will it do when the flowers have faded and collapsed? Yet to search for species.... Eriophora or Araneus..... http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_orbweavers/OrangeOrbWeaver.htm

Thanks for looking at it. I agree Eriophora is most likely. There are many similar patterns but none quite the same. Makes for a pretty scene anyway.
