wow definitely an eastern hognose great spot of my favorite snake!
I agree with RedTop Ranger. This appears to be an Eastern Hog-nosed Snake. They usually try to avoid contact with people and, while they sometimes puff up, gasp and make fake lunges, they very rarely bite people unless they are abused.
I did a quick search after my first commented and found the link above. Pretty sure it's an Eastern Hognose Snake. We used to have one at the park where I work and they're awesome! Lots of cool defensive mechanisms to make you think they're really dangerous, but they're not.
Looks like some species of hognose snake. I'd start your search there...not sure what species you guys have in Maryland! Very cool find, though!
