Field Notes

Description:

This wasp was approximately 1-1/2 inches in length. Is it an Eastern Cicada Killer or a Japanese Killer Hornet? Unfortunately, this is the only image I have of it that is any good. It was spotted in my bathroom in Laurel, MD, and, not taking any chances on it being the latter, killed by dropping a board on it (which incidentally only stunned it) and dropping it down the toilet. I'd like to know what it was.
