Field Notes

Description:

This species is a medium-sized frog. The male tympanum is twice the diameter of the eye; but, in females, the tympanum is about the same as that of the eye. Also, males have bright yellow throats. The dorsolateral ridges distinguish the green frog from the bullfrog, which entirely lacks them.

Habitat:

Spotted in a small pool surrounded by vegetation at Sharon Audubon. This pool was full of pickerel frogs about 6 weeks ago, but now they are completely gone, and the pool is teeming with green frogs instead.
