Field Notes
Description:
This is one of the few fungi known better for its effects on wood than for its fruiting body. Once established in downed timber, its mycelium branches out and spreads through the wood, exuding, as part of its life processes, a blue-green dye. If you see a blue-green log or wood debris, it is the work of this fungi. I was lucky to find it at its fruiting stage, since they only emerge after a long wet spell.
