Field Notes

Description:

Distinctive wasp with black-tipped orange antennae, a black head, and a black thorax with an orange section near the neck. The abdomen was striped with red, black, and orange. Wings were iridescent.

Habitat:

Resting on a cherry laurel, but it was likely attracted by the palm flowers also in the same pile of tree clippings. Suburban yard next to mixed forest.
