Field Notes

Description:

Dark grey head & neck, dark blue/grey tail. wings & back, white breast underparts, mid length blue grey beak, darker blended grey around eyes. Call is melodious series of whistles. Feeds on insects often caught in mid air, but has been observed sipping nectar from flowers. More closely related to Butcherbirds & Magpies. The wings are pointed & large & the birds are very agile in flight, often roosts in flocks.

Habitat:

Found throughout Australia in many environments. This one near salt lake & inland river system roosting in overhanging tree singing happily in the late afternoon.
