Field Notes

Description:

What I assume to be a Ganoderma sp.
I was following a trail of feathers of what I assumed to be a kill site trying to track down any remains, and although I did eventually find what I was looking for, I also got to find this delight. It looks like the fungi has actually grown around the feathers, integrating them into its fruiting body. There also appeared to be bugs under the second Ganoderma.

Habitat:

A dead, very rotted branch in Australian pine leaf litter by a lake.

Notes:

There is one white feather on top, and a harder to see black feather on the bottom.
