Field Notes

Description:

The Noisy Miner is a bold and curious bird, and is an Australian native. I just happened to look up when I heard fluttering in the tree and saw a face looking back at me. It was the changing of the guard - one bird getting off the nest and the other getting on. I'll keep an eye on the nest over the next few weeks. Info on the species can be found at one of my previous spottings at this same location - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/24670094

Habitat:

Nesting in a tree (species unknown) at Metroplex on Gateway in the Brisbane suburb of Murarrie. These trees are popular with the Miners, so as soon as they flower I will try to ascertain the species.

Notes:

It's still so warm in Brisbane, even though we are well and truly into winter. Odd that they should be nesting at this time of year. >>>>> Update - June 25, 2014 - The eggs have hatched. I can hear chirping from the nest. The parents are very aggressive towards humans and other birds, particularly the butcherbirds. >>>>> And here are the chicks one week later - July 03, 2014 - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/423796004
