I found this one in my own back yard! 2nd one this month!!

I think this one is different from the 1st one

Not Iris oratoria. It is a Tenodera. Iris oratoria probably is not in Illinois. 1st part of the scientific method, good observation noticing it was a different species.
I've been spotting a lot of mantids lately as well. :) I've seen about a half-dozen this month. I'm a groundskeeper so I'm outside all day cutting and trimming at a youth camp. Lovely creatures, they have an alien look to them.
