36.853, -75.9774
Field Notes
Description:
These insects have a very distinct feature where the front 2 legs are folded in a way that resembles prayer. This feature makes them easily recognizable. They are actually helpful to farmers because their diet consists of insects which harm crops such as "Aphids, mosquitoes, flies, roaches, bees, crickets, butterflies, grasshoppers, beetles, and spiders (switcheroozoo.com)"
Habitat:
Praying mantis are normally found in bushy fields or gardens in North America. They can also be found in rainforests. They are native to just about many continents including Africa, Asia, North and South America.
Notes:
This guy lives in a bush in my front yard. We see him from time to time. He is about 5 inches (or more) long. HE IS HUGE!
