Field Notes

Description:

A very small metallic coloured beetle about 4mm long. Tints of green and red depending upon angle of sun. Relatively long antennae compared to leaf beetles for example. Elytra heavily pitted. I initially thought this might be a flea-beetle but the largest femurs are on the front pairs of legs. Note: take reading glasses next time.

Habitat:

On a Eucalyptus microcarpa in suburban back yard.

Notes:

Thanks Stephen Thorpe. Case-bearing beetle Associated with dead wood or old trees. Coastal and big river drainage basins. Probably capable of flight. Very likely A viridis... size, shape, antennae segments match.

Thanks Stephen. The short elytra was saying case-bearing?
