Field Notes

Description:

This beetle was approximately 1 inch or 2.5 cm in length.

Habitat:

I found this beetle pupa a few weeks ago in a warm compost pill. I wanted to keep it, so I then found a small plastic pot, and put the pot and the beetle pupa into an insect container. I then preceded to fill the container with the dry compost dirt. I also made share that the pot was not completely full of dirt. After this I put the insect container into a dark area and waited.

Notes:

Verified in the book. Bugs of Washington and Oregon. By John Acorn and Ian Sheldon. This beetle made sounds when it was disturbed.
