I am pretty sure that this butterfly is actually a Spicebush Swallowtail. Probably a female. These can be very confusing to tell apart from some of the other Swallowtail butterflies. Here is a link to the BugGuide page for the Black Swallowtail. If you scroll down, they have an nice description of the similar looking butterflies and how to distinguish them from each other. It has taken me a while and I still make mistakes with IDing them sometimes, haha! http://bugguide.net/node/view/2636
Could also be an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail which can mimic a Pipevine Swallowtail to fool predators. Might be good to check out both.
