Field Notes

Habitat:

Woodland/prairie mix. Found on a black walnut tree.

Notes:

According to bugguide.net, there are several of these hoppers that look similar, but have not yet been given species names due to the fact that they feed off of different host plants. This nymph appears to be beginning to molt. Makes me think of a punk rocker:)

Thanks Sckel! This is one of my favorite finds of the year. I found them about 9:30 am, but there was only one tree that I found them on. It was a nice shaded area.
Gorgeous. these photos were taken in the morning? is usually the time they emerge. you need to wake up at 5 am. :)
