Field Notes

Description:

Green leaves all coming from one point. Smooth rounded edges on the leaves ending in a oping at the tip. Simple straight but noticeable even veins on the leaves.

Habitat:

Forest hike, but I have seen the same plant in the city too

Notes:

In Bulgarian this plant common name is живовляк (jivovliak) meaning life or life giving plant. As kids when cut or scraped ourselves we would rub the area with the leaves and juice, we would often wrap the area with a leaf and tie it with grass. It was the wild life equivalent for a bandaid. As I grew older I learned that the medicinal properties of the plant are anti-inflammatory and help pull the puss off a wound or damaged skin out of the skin/body. Commonly used with blisters.
