Field Notes

Description:

A legless lizard about two-and-a-half feet long. This species varies in color and markings, but has a distinctly pointed snout.

Habitat:

Western Australia red rock desert.

Notes:

It was moving away from me as quickly as possible.

I can't exactly tell you what it was, but when I first saw it my head went to legless lizard instead of snake. It might have something o do with the way it moved. Legless lizards are about 2/3 tail, while snakes are about 1/3 tail.

Very cool! Sure looks like a garter snake, but the head looks different.
