Field Notes

Description:

epiphytic orchid, flowers 3 -4 cm, deliciously fragrant. while photographing the flower, a skipper butterfly landed right on it, talk about perfect timing! see second photo.

Habitat:

tropical rainforest

Notes:

One of the larger orchid flowers I spotted in Bogani Nani Wartabone national park. Most were miniatures, less than 1cm, so it was really nice to see something of substantial size. I spotted this on a recently fallen over tree.
