Field Notes

Description:

The coat is shaggy and long to help them cope with the harsh winters of the Himalayan region of Ladakh.

Pashmina makes extremely fine shawls etc.

Habitat:

Grasslands on mountain sides where there is some water. These are precious domistic animals.

Notes:

The Indian subcontinent has 20 well-characterized goat breeds. In the last photo the trusting nature of domestic animals can be seen. This goat ran up to our van without any hesitation...we had NOTHING to feed it. Thankfully there were no other vehicles on the road...we had stopped to photograph these animals.
