Field Notes

Description:

This dolphin grows to 2.6 metres (8.5 ft) long, and weighs up to 230 kilograms (510 lb). It lives in the waters around India, northern Australia, South China, the Red Sea, and the eastern coast of Africa. Its back is dark grey and its belly is lighter grey or nearly white with grey spots.

Habitat:

Coral sea.

Notes:

First time I've been this close to a dolphin in the wild. Lovely.

Thanks Alice. I'm finally getting to the videos and uploading them. I got a very short clip of this dolphin, as it was just passing through, and the water was full a genus of filamentous cyanobacteria, Trichodesmium, also called 'sea sawdust'.
I've been busy going through all your Lady Elliot Islands spottings Lori & they're all gorgeous! I'll have to go there some day!
