Field Notes

Description:

Small mushrooms about 4 cm tall that were coming up in a Hotel lawn. There were all stages of development present. The cap comes up tube-like and elongated. When it reaches its full height, the cap opens. As it opens farther, the cap is forced to split in one or more places to reach a full umbrella shape. The last picture shows the gills. These mushrooms emerged after heavy rains. This might be Leucoagaricus americanus.

Habitat:

Hotel Holiday Inn, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas.
