Field Notes

Description:

Not is mentioned about this subspecies. What I observed is that when I drove on to this property I thought I heard some kind of electrical buzz like a transformer. But then I heard more and thought they sounded like many buzz saws going off and making sudden stops. But I am in a upland of Cholla cactus. Every once in awhile I saw one or more taking off. Then I realized I was looking at 2 inches of these big bugs. Dirty brown in color with some white patches. One wanted to land on me. Eyes on the sides of their large heads and clear big and long wings.

Habitat:

These prefered the Prickley pear and Cholla cactus to land on.
