Field Notes

Description:

The mulberry trees in our backyard produces black mulberries when ripe. Delicious. Bloom during the month of June each year. We have two large trees in our backyard and have been there for years and the birds love them. The mulberry fruit is a fruit that can be white, green, or pale yellow. The fruits turn pink and then red while ripening, then dark purple or black, and have a sweet flavor when fully ripe. The fruits of the white-fruited cultivar are white when ripe; the fruit in this cultivar is also sweet but has a very mild flavor compared with the darker variety. We also have lots of mulberry trees at our county park. Some are black berries, some white berries, and some burgundy berries.

Habitat:

In our backyard and at Kinder Farm Park in Millersville, Maryland
