Description:

Adult light tan to gray snake with brown "Hershey Kiss-shaped markings along the sides. This species is venomous and should be wtched from a respectful distance.

Habitat:

Limestone outcrop in thick rhododendron/mountain laurel habitat at a mixed species gestation site.

Notes:

This species is venomous and should be observed from a respectful distance.

*As this is a species was sharing habitat with a sensitive species, the locality information has been altered to protect this organism.

This snake in the subfamily Crotalinae (pit vipers) is endemic to Eastern North America. The copperhead's head is rather distinct from the rest of its patterned body, with a solid, rich brown color.
