My 3yo son brought this in the house..... never seen a moth like it before.

The prominent band along the costa (the side of the moth's wing) is an indicator for Eumorpha fasciatus over E. vitis.

Yep I agree, looks like a Vine Sphinx. Wiki says "Adults are on wing from April to May and again from July to October in Florida"

Thanks for the suggestions. I think the Vine Sphinx is closest to what it is. This one did "flutter" it's wings quickly if you messed with it.... but it really didnt move.... even when my son "poked it". I suspect it may be toward the end of it's cycle... but it is beautiful.

Never seen one sit still for every long before. Something a lot of people call them is hummingbird moths. Fun to watch fly around.
