Doleschallia bisaltide
2.75052, 102.215
Field Notes
Description:
This is a 5th (and final) instar caterpillar of Autumn Leaf that i found near the bushes in my backyard. The size of this caterpillar is about 60 mm.
This caterpillar is black, with 3 rows of dorsal white spots. Head with a pair of branched spines; rest of the segments with a dorsal and a lateral row of blue branched spines on each side.
Habitat:
- Spotted near the bushes in my backyard. Usually it can be found in and out of the nature reserves, such as urban areas, nature parks and wastelands, swampy forests. This is likely due to the fact the one of its three known local host plants, Asystasia gangetica, is a common weed, and that the other two (Pseuderanthemum spp.) are cultivated and used as ornamental plants.
Notes:
- This is caterpillar of butterfly from the Nymphalidae family. Thanks to Bayucca for the ID.
* Kingdom: Animalia
* Phylum: Arthropoda
* Class: Insecta
* Order: Lepidoptera
* Family: Nymphalidae
* Genus: Doleschallia
* Species: D. bisaltide
