Limacella sp. mushrooms
Limacella sp. (poss. L. pitereka)
-27.5085, 153.018
Field Notes
Description:
Lovely little garden variety mushrooms that I observed over a 4 day period. They were covered in a clear, viscid slime. Loose gills free from the stipe with no ring. Fine ribbing around an otherwise smooth cap, initially bulb-shaped, then convex, and finally flattens out with age, and margins also split with age. Skin completely white and translucent inner flesh a pale creamy colour. Whether caps darken as they mature is unknown. Heavy rain damaged the caps on days 3 & 4, so further development beyond this point was impossible.
Habitat:
Growing in very wet grass in a suburban garden.
Notes:
Could this be Mycena genus? Perhaps bio-luminescent? Suggestions so far: Entoloma sericellum. Also Limacella sp. of the Amanitaceae family. Limacella pitereka looks promising. Visually it looks very similar, and it's also covered in the clear, viscid slime.... http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rJmgCPyEe5s/UBZmKjEF8sI/AAAAAAAAA-I/VuFp4lDRD… (also see photos at the reference link) Common name for this species unknown, but it is an Australian native species. Some useful links - https://apps.des.qld.gov.au/species-search/details/?id=27368 http://www.amanitaceae.org/?Limacella%20pitereka Also a good description of a similar Limacella species. It does make mention of L. pitereka, saying that this spottings gills are smaller than that species. http://qldfungi.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Limacella-sp-2.pdf
