Field Notes

Description:

Large bird, rather crow-like but with a longer tail. Attractive colour combination: rust, black and white.

Habitat:

Urban area.

Notes:

Harsh call but a more melodious (not delightful) courtship call. I took a bad tumble one day when I mistook the courtship call for the call of a new species and missed a step.

It is called Haa-ree- chacha in Bangla meaning "scraper of the pot" which is enough indication about the sweetness (!) of its usual call.

I need to check my camera it is messing up the dates.

These common birds like the tree pie, coppersmith barbet, parrot,,peacocks, are so pretty!!
Saw this in Kerala. I guess they range from North to South. The call is harsh!!
