Field Notes
Description:
A very unique moth from the family Lasiocampidae. It is brown in color with grey patches forming slight wavy patterns on its wings, facilitating its camouflage as a dry leaf clinging to a plant. Hairs on its upper body are as thick as bristles. Well-concealed beneath those cryptic wings is an abdomen banded with colors of black and yellow which it brandishes in an alarming fashion to ward off threat. It hardly flies away if disturbed.
On the fore area are two distinct white spot (false eyes). The real eyes must have been hidden under the shield formed over the head unto the wings behind. Antennae seem to be neatly tucked under the wings from the head, that is if it has any. It looks like one in hibernation.
Habitat:
Vegetable in the garden
