Description:
This moth was found as a chrysalis on my dill plant. It was a small green chrysalis protected by a light barrier of webbing. The chrysalis had prominent red eyes until right before the adult emerged. This moth was 8-10mm in length, and had beautiful markings. The eyes were not as vibrant of a red as was found on the chrysalis, but were a reddish brown.
Habitat:
Found on a dill plant as a chrysalis, but I have read that the caterpillar feeds on oak.
Notes:
Emerged from its chrysalis between 10 and 10:30 at night.
I found this on a dill plant purchased in Mansfield, CT, cared for it in Brooklyn, CT, and released it in Cambridge, MA. I was traveling and needed to take it with me.
