Field Notes

Description:

Small relative to rabbits and hares. The American pika usually weighs about 170 g (6.0 oz). The gray to cinnamon brown colors help it blend in into the boulder fields that they live in. Rounded ears, head and body.

Habitat:

Large boulder field next to Frozen Lake at Sunrise, Mount Rainier National Park. Around 6500 ft. a.s.l.

Notes:

I watched this one run across boulders to the edge where the grass was, eat some grass (pic 4) then run back into the boulders.
