Ribbed Case Moth
Hyalarcta nigrescens
-37.8142, 144.963
Field Notes
Description:
Small (from 3 to 5 cm long), ribbed, silken case attached to the underside of leaf on a eucalypt. Head and legs visible on some specimens.
Notes:
Many of these in various sizes and ages were clinging to a small eucalypt in a quiet suburban street. Some were conical like the first image, with bits of debris. These would be the early instars. Others like the second image, hung pendulously without debris which would have been later instars and the largest of these may have included some adult females.
