Description:
Chestnut brown, black and yellow butterfly seen in particular abundance this Spring. Mottled for camoflage underwings. Males and females do not display sexual domorphism.
Habitat:
Yellow Admiral Butterflyies prefer damp areas such as gullies, creek banks, riverside, also suburban gardens' Seen in leafy urban gardens. This specimen was warming itself by the late afternoon sun on a wall by a busy road. Caterpillars' food plant is nettles.
Notes:
Underside false eye obscurred by hind wing in photograph but upper side of wings was visible on live specimen.
