Field Notes

Description:

Large mammal that can be varying colors from blonde to black. I ended up seeing 14 bears total this evening, and all were black.

Habitat:

At Alligator River NWR. Close to the coast with lots of agricultural fields, forests, and water canals. Got to see a few of the bears swim after they crossed the road, was pretty cool!

Thanks Rob, Satyen, Emily, Tom, and Cody! Emily, I had only seen 2 bears before this, both at night and from very far away. I went to this place specifically for the bears, it was something I really wanted to photograph while in NC. Hopefully you get to see some soon too :)
Great pics and congrats on getting all those bears!
Wow! Once again I am so jealous! I have never seen a bear in the wild and for you to see 14 in one evening I am just blown away! This is such a beautiful series!
Cool that you got to see them, Ashley! This is a well-known place for spotting bears. When I was there in January, I unfortunately didn't see any - nice to see them in your photos!
Thanks so much Fyn and Antonio :)
