Field Notes

Description:

Fishflies are most easily distinguished from their closest relatives, dobsonflies, by the jaws and antennae; fishfly mandibles are not particularly large. The antennae of the female are almost linear, with just a little jaggedness on the edges (serrate). Earlier flight (spring) than C. pectinicornis in most of east. Head and pronotum have dark markings on light brown background, as opposed to yellowish markings on dark brown background of C. pectinicornis.

Habitat:

Eastern North America, near calm bodies of water with detritus.

Notes:

Spotted along a segment of the Noonday Creek Trail in Kennesaw, GA
