Field Notes

Description:

I saw them together on the same plant when I came back a few hours later. I think parental care is pretty normal for this species. http://www.whatsthatbug.com/2013/05/05/leaf-footed-bug-aggregation-spar…

A few days later, there were five adults and five nymphs all on the same plant. There were also a lot of ants on the plant that seemed to show up around the same time that these leaf-footed bugs did.

Habitat:

Solanum species in a weedy suburban yard

Thanks Maria for the mission links. Didn't we have also a blog about parental care in insects??
Very nice spotting. There is a mission for parental care among insects: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8176997 and another on parental care in general: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/11166049
Also, is this the same species? http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/391306019
Welcome! If you find something interesting, please, put it in the description!
Thank you! And thanks for the ID as always
No idea! Try to google "parental care" and "bugs" or Coreidae", maybe you find something interesting (which it actually is). I know that some bugs have an interesting parental care habits.
Is it normal for the adult to be with just one nymph?
Coreidae, Coreinae, Spartocerini, Spartocera fusca. The orange ones are the nymphs: http://bugguide.net/node/view/566314/bgimage http://bugguide.net/node/view/331883/bgimage Adults: http://bugguide.net/node/view/705931/bgimage http://bugguide.net/node/view/669846/bgimage http://bugguide.net/node/view/71169/bgimage http://bugguide.net/node/view/45447/bgimage The whole bulk: http://bugguide.net/node/view/41201/bgimage
