Field Notes

Description:

White, five petals so deeply notched they appear as 10 sepals. The star-shaped flowers of Star Chickweed inspired the common and Latin name for this flower. Native Americans used a stem and root tea with Yellow Lady’s Slipper to expel worms in children

Habitat:

USA: AL , DC , FL , GA , IL , IN , KY , LA , MD , MS , NC , NE , NJ , NY , OH , PA , SC , TN , VA , WV
Native Distribution: Illinois east to New York, south to Florida, west to Louisiana, and northeast to Kentucky; also in Nebraska and Minnesota.
Native Habitat: Rich woods and rocky slopes.
