Field Notes

Description:

Size about 60 cm large, wingspan between 123–146 cm.
Pale brown on the head, breast and tail, with browner wings and black flight feathers.

Habitat:

Spotted at Seal Island WA (Australia). is found throughout Australia (including coastal islands) New Caledonia and much of New Guinea (excluding the central mountains and the northwest); Inhabits woodland, open landscape and coastal areas.

Notes:

It is named for its loud whistling call, which it often gives in flight.
