Field Notes
Description:
Smaller than a Robin. Male is black with bright red shoulder patches. Female and young are heavily streaked with dusky brown. The birds have gathered with other blackbirds in a flock of hundreds. Their voices are carried quite a distance.
Habitat:
Marshes, swamps, and wet and dry meadows; pastures.
