Field Notes

Description:

I was very jealous of my friend and fellow Ranger Juan di Trani, for his wonderful photos of parasitic wasp larvae emmerging from a caterpillar's body. Well, today I found one miself, and I could to take some photos too. Not as good as Juan's, but still very dramatic, I think. In the photos it is possible to see some larvae almost entirely covered by silk, and others still naked.

Nice spot Sergio!. I know these are not very cute pictures but to me they are extremely interesting. You have to be really lucky for been on the perfect time for watching this
Thank you, John La Salle. I'll try to get new photos of them.
Sergio. Nice pictures. Always difficult to say anything for sure without seeing the adult wasps, but these aer most probable Braconidae larvae - from the subfamily Microgastrinae. This is a large and difficult group.
