Common Tailorbird
Orthotomus sutorius
22.5417, 88.3164
Field Notes
Description:
Tiny bird with olive greenish-brown feathers on back and pale or dirty white undersurface. Black mark on neck. Crown is rust coloured. How small this bird is can be guessed by the fact that the leaflets of the Cassia are not even bending under its weight.
Habitat:
Neglected garden of an abandoned house. I would have missed it had it not begun to sing.
Notes:
This bird has a really loud call. Stiches together really impressive nests. We see the nests on our mango trees. During the breeding season themales tail grows dis-proportionately long.
