Field Notes

Description:

Thinner than other, more common wasps, but much longer, most of this length attributed to its abnormally long, segmented abdomen. Females use this long abdomen to lay eggs into June beetle grubs.

Habitat:

North, Central, and South America.

Notes:

I have never encountered this species before, though the Wikipedia page says my region is included in their natural habitat.
Judging by its long abdomen and the observation that males tend to be rarer in North America, this is likely a female.
