Field Notes

Notes:

Cats brought this giant insect (katydid?) into the house. Showing hand and computer mouse for scale. Unfortunately, it must have sustained some serious injury during the cat attack because it died shortly after. These are actually relatively common locally, especially during rainy season, although less so every year it would seem. Probably a species of Stilpnochlora, maybe S. azteca?

Species ID Suggestions

Fork-tailed Bush Katydid

Scudderia furcata

Good guess but I'm leaning more towards Stilpnochlora azteca or a very close species.
