Sand Lettuce

Gilma, that little succulent must also be an endemic species of the Island, but I have no idea which species. It wasn't in the Museum Garden either. There is another picture of it (but not a good close up) around the Seaside Daisy that was also in the same place as the Sand Lettuce. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/413636052/fullscreen

Thank you Rosa, Mark and Gilma. I would love to spend a week on the Channel Islands. It is a fascinating place.

Gilma, I added 2 more pictures taken on the Island. The 4th picture has one open flower to compare to the open flowers in the second pictures.

Hi Gilma, the first and third pictures were taken on the Island. On the mainland where the Island Tour Company is housed (in Ventura, California), they have a small Museum Garden to display the plants that grow on the Channel Islands and they are all named. The second picture was taken in that garden because the flowers were open. On the Island, most of the flowers were still in a budding stage. The Museum Garden was a bit neglected and in that picture you can see dead plant material and the succulent leaves were not as healthy. I think the red present on the plants on the Island must be due to full sun exposure. What part did you want to see a close up? I can look back through my pictures. Lots were in the fog.
