Seems about right. I am no expert, so I just wanted to be sure.
I'm gonna say you are right, there seems to be some color variation on the underwing, and I was able to find some without the color. http://www.first-nature.com/insects/lepidoptera/vanessa-atalanta.php
I am almost positive it is the same butterfly. I saw it fly to a rock, snapped the pic, then followed it into the grass, to snap a few more. Unless somehow I mistakenly followed the wrong one, I'm pretty sure it is.
Is the third photo definitely the same butterfly? It is actually making me question the ID because it is lacking color on the underside of the wings
