Field Notes

Description:

This is a follow up to a spotting I made in 2013 (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/23061009). A boggy area between the trail and the flower was much larger and sloppier than it had been in previous years so I couldn't get very close to the trilliums.

Habitat:

Found in the southeastern United States. Like most trilliums, it prefers moist, humus-rich soil in shade. Its northern limit includes the Great Smoky Mountains and other parts of North Carolina and Tennessee.

Notes:

Spotted along the trail at the Allatoona Pass Battlefield.
