Field Notes

Description:

Gorgeous admiral with dark wings with a row of flashing white squares on both sides of the wings and dark orange tips on the forewings.

Habitat:

An open meadow in the temperate rainforest of the Pacific Northwest. Previously cow pasture area.

Notes:

There are only 2 species of admirals in British Columbia and this is the most common. However, this is only the second spotting I have made of them. Mesmerizing to watch them flitting about the meadow and then rising up to disappear in the surrounding trees.
