Field Notes

Description:

About 1cm body length; thorax is domed and almost works as a helmet, with its spear-shaped end almost reaching the tip of the abdomen; basic colour is brown with a red outline of the thorax and part of the forewing, and some green areas on the wings, eyes are also bright red; head and thorax are covered in short but dense hair.

Habitat:

Dense vegetation in the Ecuadorian Andes at about 2500m above sea level. This picture was taken in a park in Cuenca.
