Field Notes

Description:

Three small nests attached to an outdoor light.

Habitat:

These structures were found on a suburban home on a wooded lot. Oak and pine trees are predominant.

Notes:

These appear to be some sort of wasp nests, but are much smaller than a typical wasp nest. I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of wasp -- or other insect -- made these nests. Thanks to the responses, I now know that they're potter wasp nests.

Thanks for the quick responses! Yes, they certainly do look like potter wasp nests. I can see where they get their name.
