Description:
Lacy crust bryozoanis an interesting marine organism that creates these circular patches on kelp blades. Most were one to two inches in diameter. Each patch can have a colony of thousands of microscopic animals called zooids. Please read references to learn more about these fascinating creatures.
Habitat:
Spotted on washed-up kelp blades along the beach at Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge.
